Planet Aid Farmers’ Club

When we think of super heroes, often times we picture caped, muscular characters with magic powers and secret identities. However, heroes are also people who perform great deeds and remarkable achievements, such as the individuals who compose Planet Aid (PA). Planet Aid is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization who helps individuals, countries and our environment and actively supports international development projects. Perhaps there is no greater charity than to help people who can’t help themselves. If organizations such as PA did not exist, millions of disadvantaged people around the globe would have no food, shoes, clothing or other support.

Planet Aid was developed in 1997 in Boston, as an initiative to collect clothing for needy people. Today, PA collects and recycles millions of pounds of used clothing and shoes and provides them to impoverished communities around the world. The various services they provide to communities help to strengthen them and reduce poverty. Planet Aid supports 14 countries such as Africa, Brazil, China, India, Ecuador, Zimbabwe and America. PA not only helps clothed and feed communities, they help protect the environment by recycling clothes and shoes which saves landfill space and prevents harmful gases from polluting the air.

PA helps developing countries by supporting other organizations such as Teacher Training, Child Aid and Farmer’s Club. These organizations are vital to helping communities in developing countries learn, improve living conditions to promote healthy children and grow food. The Farmer’s Club is a three to five year program created to help and train farmers to be productive in growing crops and making money. This in turn helps promote sustainability and allows them to have a dependable source of food. The program inspires farmers to use new techniques and empowers them to become the driving force in agricultural change. Creating a Farmers' Club and providing training and materials costs $150 yearly for each farmer who participates.

Planet Aid can’t be successful without the help of the many wonderful people of this world who donate money, time, clothing and shoes. There are over 18,000 signature yellow PA donation boxes across 21 states for people to drop off donations. For 15 years, this service has been provided free of charge to companies, government agencies, and schools. PA encourages your involvement in the fight to make this world a fair and environmentally safe place for everyone. You can drop off clothes and shoes, make monetary donations or host a bin by allowing a bin to be placed on your property.

You can also help out the Farmer’s club by sending in donations to help out families. A little goes a long way as $25 helps buys a basic set of farming tools, materials to create a garden in their backyards, and a one-day workshop to help 50 farmers learn new production methods. You can also give $50, $100, $250 or $500. Give $500 to help build a demonstration garden containing a 60-foot well with a hand-operated pump. In addition, 50 farmers will receive farming equipment and a library filled with books on farming.
